The One Kano Agenda has carefully followed recent political developments in Kano State, particularly the decision of the Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, to decamp to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
As a civic movement founded on the principles of unity, inclusiveness, patriotism, and sustainable development, we consider it necessary to clearly state our position at this critical moment in the interest of the people of Kano State and all stakeholders.
One Kano Agenda reiterates without reservation that it remains a strictly non-partisan civic platform. We are neither aligned with nor opposed to any political party. Our allegiance is not to party structures or political coalitions but solely to Kano State and its people. Our guiding principle remains firm and unchanged: Kano comes first, always.
In this context, we emphasize that the political party under which a governor operates is not the true measure of leadership. What matters is the Governor’s commitment to peace, unity, development, and the overall well-being of the people of Kano State. Leadership must be judged by actions, policies, and outcomes — not by party labels.
Accordingly, One Kano Agenda restates its long-standing position that a Governor’s change of political party is irrelevant so long as governance remains people-centered, inclusive, and focused on tangible development outcomes. Where leadership prioritizes security, economic growth, quality education, healthcare delivery, youth and women empowerment, infrastructure development, and social harmony, such leadership deserves constructive engagement and support irrespective of political affiliation.
In this spirit, One Kano Agenda affirms its readiness to work constructively with any governor from any political party who demonstrates genuine commitment to advancing the interests of Kano State. Our engagement will always be issue-based, solution-oriented, and guided by dialogue, evidence, and the collective aspirations of the people.
We also commend His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for the establishment of the Kano Elders Forum — a laudable and forward-looking initiative. The creation of a non-political forum of respected elders and patriots reflects an appreciation for wisdom, experience, and moral authority in governance. If sincerely sustained, this forum can play a vital role in promoting unity, stability, conflict resolution, and long-term strategic thinking in Kano State.
However, One Kano Agenda respectfully cautions His Excellency as he navigates this new political phase not to deviate from his primary responsibility to Kano State. We urge him not to allow himself to be used, pressured, or influenced by any individual or group from any political party, including the APC, to take actions contrary to the interests of Kano State and its people.
Kano State is bigger than any political party. Its future must never be subordinated to external political calculations, partisan battles, or personal ambitions. The trust placed in the Governor by the people of Kano is sacred and must be guarded against any attempt to compromise the state’s peace, unity, dignity, and developmental priorities.
Furthermore, One Kano Agenda strongly warns against attempts by any actors to exploit the current political situation to sow division, misinformation, or tension within Kano State. Political developments must never be used as tools for incitement or fear-mongering. Kano’s long-standing reputation for resilience, tolerance, and leadership must be preserved at all costs.
We call on political actors, opinion leaders, the media, and citizens to exercise maturity, restraint, and responsibility. Kano State must not be dragged into unnecessary political toxicity that distracts from urgent challenges such as unemployment, insecurity, education, healthcare, urban development, and economic revitalization.
This moment should serve as an opportunity to refocus on performance-driven governance, accountability, and inclusive leadership. Progress requires collaboration across political, ethnic, and social divides.
In this regard, One Kano Agenda extends an open and sincere hand of engagement to the Governor and his administration. We remain ready to contribute ideas, policy input, research, and citizen perspectives aimed at strengthening governance and accelerating sustainable development. Our engagement will always be principled, constructive, and rooted in the best interest of Kano State.
To the good people of Kano, we urge calm, vigilance, and continued civic participation. Democracy allows political movement, but it also demands accountability and results. Citizens should focus less on party affiliations and more on policies, performance, integrity, and impact.
