On 5th January 2026, the Kano State Police Command received a letter of complaint from Hannu Da Yawa Youth Development Association Bachirawa (HADAYA) regarding public outcry by residents of Bachirawa, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Zango, Kunture and neighboring communities about the activities of a criminal group led by ‘Dawa Dan Kamsusi’ specializing in armed robbery, shop and house breaking, theft, drug trafficking, and destruction of vigilante group facilities.
2. The letter partly reads: “Despite repeated complaints and concerns raised by community members, these criminal activities persist and appear to be escalating. I respectfully appeal to your office to urgently investigate these allegations and take appropriate action in accordance with the law to restore peace and security.”
3. Upon receipt of the complaint, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, directed a team from the Anti-Daba Unit of the Command to arrest the perpetrators. The team, under the direction of the CP, swung into action with renewed vigor and determination.
4. Sustained efforts coupled with intelligence-led operations resulted in the arrest of the prime suspect, Sunusi Dawa Kamsusi, ‘m’, 26 years old, of Bachirawa Quarters Kano, with recovery of three knives and a suspected charm. Nine other members of his syndicate were trailed and arrested.
5. During investigation, the suspect confessed to series of armed robberies, mobile phone snatching, shop and house breaking, and theft, among others. Thirty (30) people have so far lodged complaints against the suspects. Suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
6. The Commissioner of Police commended the police officers who conducted the operations and appreciated community members for their support and cooperation, which led to the success of the investigation.
