The Kano State Government has inaugurated a special task force aimed at tackling the circulation of adulterated food, drug abuse, and the production of substandard consumables, as part of efforts to safeguard public health and ensure food quality across the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, led the inauguration on behalf of the state government. He stated that the establishment of the committee is part of ongoing measures to curb the spread of unsafe food products and the misuse of illicit substances in Kano State.
He further emphasized that the government remains committed to enforcing all relevant laws and regulations guiding food production and safety, warning that anyone found involved in the manufacture or sale of fake or substandard food items will face strict legal consequences.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the committee, Pharm. Khamilu Mudi Salisu, commended the initiative, noting that it would significantly contribute to protecting public health and ensuring that food sold in markets meets approved safety standards.
The task force comprises representatives from various relevant agencies and will be responsible for conducting inspections, monitoring activities, and taking necessary actions to eliminate the menace.
