The Executive Chairman of the Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board (KSPHCMB), Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, has said the state has recorded remarkable progress in the healthcare sector under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Professor Ibrahim made the disclosure during an interview in his office while reviewing the achievements of the board over the past three years of the current administration.
He noted that the state government has prioritized the health sector by upgrading primary healthcare facilities, providing medical equipment and essential drugs, and strengthening community healthcare services, particularly in rural areas.
According to him, the board currently has about 6,000 personnel. However, in line with the standards of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Kano State requires at least 11,000 healthcare workers to provide adequate primary healthcare services across its 44 local government areas.
Despite the staffing gap, Professor Ibrahim said the board has continued to deliver quality healthcare services through strong collaboration with development partners, intensified public health awareness campaigns, and improved primary healthcare delivery.
He reaffirmed the board’s commitment to working closely with the Kano State Government and other stakeholders to ensure accessible, efficient, and quality primary healthcare services for all residents of the state.
