Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has cautioned Nigerians against politicizing issues of insecurity, warning that the threat posed by armed bandits affects all citizens regardless of political affiliation.
The governor gave the warning on Saturday during a special prayer session and Qur’anic recitation held at the Government House, Kano, where 4,444 memorizers of the Holy Qur’an gathered to seek divine intervention over recent bandit incursions.
The event was attended by the 16th Fulani Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, alongside senior government officials and religious leaders.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that insecurity “does not know politics or party lines,” stressing the need for collective action in confronting criminality.
“We want to see everybody joining hands together to fight this monster and free Kano,” he said.
He noted that his administration has equipped security agencies with the necessary tools to strengthen their operations and remains in constant communication with them to address emerging needs.
The governor urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that the government and security agencies are working tirelessly to safeguard Kano and its environs.
Yusuf added that the prayer session was not just a financial commitment but a spiritual investment that every well-meaning citizen should support.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with traditional and religious stakeholders to restore sustained peace in the state.
Speaking during the event, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II commended the government’s efforts, describing the prayer session as a bold and timely step.
He revealed that while visiting Faruruwa community in Shanono Local Government Area, he observed new rural road projects being constructed by the state government.
According to him, such infrastructure would enhance security response times by improving access to remote communities.
He called on the governor to ensure local governments continue to benefit from strategic road projects that will link them more effectively with the rest of the state.
The Emir assured the governor of the Emirate Council’s full support, pledging continued collaboration to restore Kano’s reputation as a center of peace, harmony, and commercial excellence.
The event featured prayers from Islamic scholars and Qur’anic reciters drawn from all 44 local government areas of the state.
