The Kano State Government has handed over the management of the Aliko Dangote Skills Training Centre to Alhaji Aliko Dangote for a period of 20 years, with the aim of reviving the centre and ensuring that it operates effectively.
The decision followed setbacks previously experienced in the management and operation of the centre, which affected its ability to fulfil its purpose of providing young people with vocational skills and opportunities for self-reliance.
The Secretary to the Kano State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, disclosed this while formally handing over the management of the centre to representatives of Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim explained that the handover did not mean the Kano State Government had given the centre away as a gift. Rather, he said, it was an arrangement designed to ensure that the centre is properly managed and continues to fulfil its intended purpose for the next 20 years.
He said the initiative would provide young people with opportunities to acquire vocational and technical skills in a conducive environment, without unnecessary obstacles.
The Secretary to the State Government added that the government expects the new management arrangement to restore the centre to full operation and enable more young people to benefit from its programmes.
Speaking during the handover, the representative of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Alhaji Sunusi Abdulkadir, expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for the confidence placed in the Dangote Group.
He assured the government and the people of Kano that efforts would be made to ensure that the centre is revitalised and effectively utilised for skills acquisition and youth empowerment.
The initiative is expected to strengthen vocational training in Kano State and equip young people with practical skills that can help them become self-reliant and contribute to the economic development of the state.
