The Kano State Government has denied a report published by Tracka, which alleged that the government allocated more than ₦235 million in the 2025 budget for the construction of classrooms at a girls’ secondary school in Massu, Sumaila Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, disclosed this at a press conference, describing the allegation as baseless. He said there was no evidence showing that the money was paid, according to the state’s fourth-quarter 2025 budget implementation report.
Waiya said Kano State’s 2025 budget stood at ₦719.557 billion, with ₦168.350 billion allocated to the education sector. He explained that the allocation covered school rehabilitation, recruitment of teachers, provision of educational materials and security, as well as the implementation of major education projects across the 44 local government areas.
The Commissioner said there was no project named “GGSSS Massu, Sumaila” valued at more than ₦235 million in the 2025 budget or in the Kano State Executive Council’s approval documents.
He added that all government projects are subjected to due process and proper verification before implementation. According to him, the Ministry of Education and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) are currently investigating education projects in Sumaila, and the outcome of the investigation will be made public.
Waiya challenged Tracka and other civil society organisations to provide the budget page and project code on which their claim was based, as well as evidence of the contract award, payment records, contractor’s name, and details of the monitoring visit they claimed to have conducted in Massu.
