The Kano State Censorship Board has suspended two Kannywood actors, Adam Garba and Amina Uba Hassan, from all film-related activities in the state for one year over a video it described as indecent.
In a statement issued by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Comrade Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Malam Abba El-Mustapha, the board said the sanction followed the actors’ appearance in a video deemed to have violated public morality.
The statement noted that the video generated widespread controversy among residents of Kano State, prompting the board to take disciplinary action aimed at protecting the integrity of the Kannywood industry.
According to the board, its enabling law empowers it to suspend any practitioner found violating established guidelines. It also warned that failure to comply with the directive could attract stricter penalties.
Executive Secretary Malam Abba El-Mustapha urged Kannywood practitioners to avoid actions capable of bringing disrepute to the industry or undermining its reputation in the eyes of the public.
He further directed filmmakers and directors to comply fully with the suspension order, warning that anyone found working with the suspended actors during the ban period will face legal action.
