Concerns have been raised over allegations emerging from Yobe State that some supporters of governorship aspirant Kashim Musa Tumsah (MFR) are facing intimidation and undue pressure because of their political affiliation.
Reports allege that some of Tumsah’s supporters are being approached with monetary inducements in an attempt to persuade them to withdraw their support for the aspirant. It is also alleged that some individuals have been subjected to threats through phone calls, intimidation, and other forms of harassment.
Furthermore, there are allegations that some civil servants believed to be sympathetic to Kashim Musa Tumsah have had their salaries suspended, while others have reportedly been transferred to areas affected by Boko Haram insurgency as a form of victimization.
Stakeholders have called on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into these allegations and ensure the protection of every citizen’s constitutional right to freely associate with and support any political candidate without fear of intimidation or persecution.
They also warned that failure to investigate and address the allegations could deepen divisions among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State, potentially affecting the party’s unity and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement or response had been received from the authorities or APC leaders in Yobe State regarding the allegations.
