The Federal Government has expressed deep concern over the abduction of female students of the Government Girls’ Secondary School in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, and extended condolences to the families affected.
In a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reaffirmed that protecting the lives of citizens, especially students, remains one of the major responsibilities the Federal Government considers a priority.
The government condemned the attack carried out by the assailants, which led to the killing of some school personnel and the kidnapping of the students.
The Minister stated that security and intelligence agencies have been given direct orders to locate the whereabouts of the students, rescue them safely, and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. He noted that the government will not relent until the mission is fully achieved.
He added that the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to improve internal security, including the ongoing reforms in the military, police, and intelligence agencies to ensure prompt and effective response to any threat.
The statement also highlighted that Nigeria is strengthening collaboration with neighboring countries through ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to enhance border security and dismantle terrorist and kidnapping networks.
The Minister called on citizens to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies.
