The Kano State Ministry of Local Government Affairs has announced remarkable achievements in the execution of developmental projects across the 44 local government areas of the state within the first three years of the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Alhaji Tajo Othman Zaura, disclosed this while speaking with journalists at his office, stating that the ministry, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has remained committed to delivering people-oriented projects aimed at improving the living standards of residents across the state.
According to the Commissioner, the state government, through the Ministry of Local Government Affairs and in collaboration with the 44 local government councils, has successfully implemented numerous infrastructure and social development projects in both urban and rural communities.
He explained that one of the major achievements recorded during the period under review is the construction and completion of five-kilometre roads in each local government area. He noted that the road projects have significantly improved transportation, enhanced economic activities, and facilitated easier movement of people and goods within communities.
Alhaji Tajo Othman Zaura further revealed that the government has embarked on the installation of solar-powered streetlights in strategic locations across the state. He said the initiative has transformed many communities by providing reliable public lighting, improving nighttime visibility, and creating a safer environment for residents.
According to him, the solar lighting projects have not only enhanced security but have also contributed to beautifying communities and promoting social and commercial activities during evening hours. He observed that many local government headquarters and surrounding communities now possess the appearance and atmosphere of modern urban centres due to the improved lighting infrastructure.
The Commissioner also highlighted the establishment and strengthening of Neighbourhood Watch security personnel across the local government areas, describing the initiative as one of the administration’s most impactful interventions in community security.
He stated that the deployment of Neighbourhood Watch personnel has complemented the efforts of conventional security agencies, leading to improved surveillance, quicker response to security concerns, and the maintenance of peace and order in various parts of the state.
Alhaji Tajo Othman Zaura emphasized that all the projects executed by the administration were carefully designed to address the immediate needs of the people and to ensure that development reaches every corner of the state irrespective of location.
He praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his commitment to grassroots development, transparency, and inclusive governance, noting that the administration’s achievements have earned recognition from residents and stakeholders across different sectors.
The Commissioner maintained that the government’s focus on infrastructure, security, and community development has positioned Kano State as a reference point for effective local government administration and people-centred governance.
He assured residents that more developmental projects would be implemented in the coming months as the administration continues to fulfill its campaign promises and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
In conclusion, Alhaji Tajo Othman Zaura called on eligible citizens across the state to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise and ensure they obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He stressed that civic participation remains essential to sustaining democracy and urged residents to continue supporting government initiatives aimed at promoting peace, development, and prosperity throughout Kano State.
