The Kano State Government has called on residents to make it a habit to visit healthcare centers regularly for medical checkups as part of efforts to prevent diabetes, a condition many people currently suffer from without knowing.
Speaking during the commemoration of the World Diabetes Day, themed this year as “Diabetes at Every Stage of Life,” the Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, emphasized the importance of early detection and routine medical examinations.
Newshub24 Report According to the Commissioner, the number of people diagnosed with diabetes continues to rise, largely due to late detection and failure to undergo regular health assessments. He explained that the government is continually improving healthcare facilities to ensure citizens have easy access to testing and proper medical care.
Dr. Abubakar stressed that diabetes remains one of the major health challenges affecting communities, especially when it is not detected early. He warned that late diagnosis can lead to severe complications and increased suffering among patients.
The Commissioner called on parents and youths to adopt healthy eating habits, engage in regular physical activity, and avoid lifestyles that expose them to health risks. He noted that these steps play a crucial role in reducing the chances of developing diabetes.
He further urged individuals living with the condition to strictly follow medical advice and treatment plans provided by health professionals to effectively manage their health.
Dr. Abubakar also reiterated the commitment of the Kano State Government to ensuring greater awareness on diabetes prevention and management across the state.
He concluded by appealing to community leaders and relevant stakeholders to support government efforts by encouraging members of their communities to prioritize their health through regular screening and proper medical care.
