The Kano State Water Board says a shortage of funds this year has hindered its plan to convert temporary staff to permanent employees.
The Executive Chairman of the Board, Garba Ahmad Bichi, disclosed this after defending the agency’s budget before the Water Committee of the Kano State House of Assembly.
He explained that despite the funds allocated to the Board, major challenges continue to limit effective operations, particularly in maintaining existing water treatment plants and constructing new ones.
Bichi noted that although the Board is working to improve access to clean water for residents, it is still unable to meet the required supply level due to inadequate operational funding.
He added that in the newly proposed budget, the Board plans to carry out repairs in water treatment facilities and upgrade key components to address ongoing challenges in water provision across Kano State.
