Kano Government Pledges Full Support and Training Opportunities for Online Media Correspondents (KOMC).
The Kano State Government, under the leadership of Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, has promised to do everything possible to provide the Kano Online Media Correspondents (KOMC) with all the essential resources they need for their day-to-day administrative activities.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs of Kano State, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, disclosed this during a sensitization program organized by the association to enlighten its members on ways to improve their work.
Waiya further stated that Governor Yusuf has approved a special training program for the members of the association to be held outside the state in order to broaden their knowledge and skills in their daily professional duties.
In his remarks, the spokesperson of the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, donated two million naira to the association and also promised to expand the working relationship with online media platforms (retainership), particularly those already on the government’s system, to further boost their morale.
Professor Rukayya Yusuf Aliyu, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at Bayero University, Kano, delivered a presentation on Artificial Intelligence (AI), explaining how it has become the backbone of journalism in this century.
She also urged the participants to use AI responsibly, given how powerful and surprising the technology can be in accomplishing tasks within a short time.
According to Professor Rukayya, “Although AI has brought about modern advancement, you must be cautious when using it by verifying information, because it can produce results that may violate laws, contradict the norms of your community, or even go against your religion.”
Similarly, the Secretary of the Guild of Editors in Kano State, Barrister Yusif Abdussalam, said the Guild has now given KOMC the opportunity to identify senior editors among them so they can be formally registered with the organization for future collaboration.
In his contribution, the Chairman of the Kano State Online Media Association (KOMC), Comrade Abubakar Abdulkadir Dangambo, said the objective of organizing the event was to train members on ways to improve their work before reviewing the achievements the association has recorded since its establishment.
The one-day event was held today, Tuesday, 18th November 2025, at the conference hall of the Kano State Ministry of Transport. It recorded the attendance of key stakeholders, including media-related organizations, security officers, and a large number of online journalists, among others.
