The outcome of the 35th meeting of the Kano State Executive Council, presided over by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Wednesday, 18th December, 2025.
At the meeting, Council deliberated extensively on key issues of governance and development and approved a total sum of ₦38,698,282,407.94 for the execution of various projects and commitments across critical sectors of the state economy. I will now present these approvals to you sector by sector.
Education Sector
In its resolve to strengthen the education sector and improve learning conditions across the state, Council approved the settlement of outstanding obligations to boarding schools suppliers covering the 5th to 11th weeks of the first term of the 2025/2026 academic session, amounting to ₦1,698,450,267.36, under the Ministry of Education.
Council also approved ₦369,966,355.00 for the general rehabilitation of Government Secondary School, Mariri. Furthermore, approval was granted for the procurement of 50,000 units of crate bags for both primary and secondary school students across the state at the cost of ₦375,000,000.00.
In addition, Council approved ₦1,329,700,162.60 for the relocation and reconstruction of Maikwatashi and Danwaire Primary Schools to Gama C in Nassarawa Local Government Area, under the Ministry of Education.
Works and Infrastructure Sector
To improve road networks and public infrastructure, the Executive Council approved several projects under the Ministry of Works. These include the revised estimated total cost of ₦171,484,811.76 for the construction of Panda–Hamdullahi–Albasu–Sakwayen Dutse Road in Albasu Local Government Area.
Council also approved ₦111,756,366.31 for the rehabilitation of Gani Earth Dam in Sumaila Local Government Area. The determination and re-award of the contract for the construction of Gwarzo–Tsaure–Tsanyawa Road was approved at the cost of ₦16,296,423,440.53.
Further approvals include ₦455,148,526.12 for additional works along Airport Gate–Triumph Roundabout–Murtala Muhammad Way Flyover–KSIP Roundabout, and ₦591,280,670.48 for additional works along Airport Junction–Ashton Road–Club Road–Murtala Muhammad Way Roundabout.
Council also approved ₦2,229,281,157.18 as the revised estimated total cost for the rehabilitation and asphaltic overlay of Murtala Muhammad Way (Club Road Roundabout) through Bompai Road (Central Hotel) to Audu Bako Way (Magwan Road) up to State Road Junction.
The revocation and re-award of contract for the completion of a 5-kilometre dualized road in Karaye Local Government Area was approved at ₦4,426,992,250.50. Additionally, Council approved ₦916,158,333.33 for the construction of a Conference Centre at the Governor’s Lodge in Kwankwasiyya City.
Also approved were ₦141,077,362.09 for the construction of a Juma’at Mosque, including a female section, at Imawa Town in Kura Local Government Area, and ₦103,744,791.46 for the general renovation of the burnt Juma’at Mosque, Islamiyya School and Imam’s House at Yalwan Dan Ziyal in Rimin Gado Local Government Area.
Water Resources Sector
In the water sector, Council approved ₦182,123,135.25 for the construction of a water pipeline project from Hotoro Flyover to Hotoro ARTV Communities. It also approved ₦577,379,925.00 for the settlement of debt incurred for the supply of 100,000 litres of diesel (AGO) and outstanding KEDCO energy bills.
Furthermore, Council approved ₦398,257,991.20 for the execution of the 2025 Abba Kabir Yusuf Reach-Out Water Supply Projects to underserved communities across the state, Phase II.
Health Sector
To enhance healthcare delivery at the grassroots, Council approved ₦318,161,919.90 for renovation works and the provision of equipment at Lamba Primary Healthcare Centre in Bichi Local Government Area, under the Ministry of Health.
Security Sector
In a bid to strengthen internal security, Council approved ₦483,750,000.00 for the procurement of 300 units of Boxer motorcycles for the newly established Neighbourhood Watch Corps, under the Ministry of Internal Security.
Agriculture Sector
Under the Ministry of Agriculture, Council approved ₦1,488,368,870.00 for the construction of Dangora–Masama–Dansoshiya rural feeder road, including a link road to Dansoshiya Dam in Kiru Local Government Area.
Land and Urban Development Sector
Council approved ₦6,819,254,905.20 for the compensation of 5,015 property owners in Rimin Zakara, under the Ministry of Land.
Office of the Secretary to the State Government
The Executive Council approved ₦130,679,500.00 for the conduct of the fourth tranche of a capacity-building workshop on anti-corruption, financial fraud, leadership and ethical values in the workplace.
Policy Decisions
On policy matters, Council approved the engagement of the Neighbourhood Watch Corps into the state service and directed the Civil Service Commission and the Office of the Head of Civil Service to facilitate the issuance of permanent and pensionable appointment letters.
Council also approved the settlement of all pending certificates for contractors handling the construction of storey blocks of four classrooms across the 44 Local Government Areas, with a directive that all projects be completed within one month.
Other approvals include the appointment of Management and Board Members of the Kano State Mining Company, the commencement of a comprehensive review of the Qualifying Examination Policy in the state, and the settlement of the outstanding balance of Earned Academic Allowance for academic staff of Northwest University, Kano.
Council further approved the implementation of modalities aimed at eradicating street begging and restoring the dignity of affected individuals, to be led by the Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with relevant MDAs. In addition, Council approved the revocation of contracts for the construction of 5-kilometre roads in Makoda, Doguwa and Fagge Local Government Areas due to contractors’ negligence.
Presentations and Courtesy Visits
Finally, Council witnessed several presentations, awards and courtesy visits. These included the formal introduction of the new Vice Chancellor of Northwest University, gifts from the Nigerian Navy Logistics College Dawakin Tofa and the Saudi Council, presentation of Kano State as the Best Performing State at the 2025 National Agricultural Show, Best Governor Award on Youth and Sports Development, National Peace Award as Beacon of Peace in the Northwest, and awards of excellence from various national bodies.
Other presentations included souvenirs from Julius Berger and Gusto Restaurants, a letter of appreciation from the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and gifts from security agencies and development organizations.
Gentlemen of the Press, these approvals and policy decisions clearly demonstrate the commitment of the Kano State Government to inclusive development, infrastructure renewal, human capital development and improved service delivery across all sectors.
