Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has established a committee to address the problem of inadequate employment of indigenous people of Kano State
The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the establishment of a committee to address the problem of inadequate representation of indigenous Kano residents in recruitment into federal government agencies, private companies, and organizations.
The committee was inaugurated at the office of the Secretary to the Kano State Government, Umar Ibrahim, according to a statement released on Thursday.
Umar Ibrahim expressed concern over the continued exclusion of indigenous Kano people from employment opportunities, despite the state being the most populous in Nigeria.
He stated that the number of unemployed youths in Kano is extremely high and is believed to be higher than that of any other state in Nigeria.
Umar Ibrahim explained that the members of the committee were carefully selected and consist of professionals with experience and expertise in public service.
The committee is chaired by Danyaro Yakasai, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Planning and Socio-Economic Development, while Ibrahim Muhammad, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Human Resources, serves as the Deputy Chairman.
The responsibilities of the committee include reviewing recruitment processes in federal agencies, private companies, and non-governmental organizations operating in Kano State.
In addition, the committee will assess the number of indigenous Kano residents employed in these institutions, engage with the relevant bodies on recruitment guidelines, and collaborate with the Federal Character Commission to ensure fairness and compliance with applicable laws.
The committee has been given a four-week deadline to submit its report.
