The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Muhammad Doro, has lauded Kano State for setting a new national benchmark in humanitarian governance and social protection delivery.
The Minister gave the commendation while receiving a delegation from the Kano State Social Protection Agency (KASPA), led by its Director General, Hajia Fatima Abubakar Abdullahi (Amneef), during a courtesy visit to the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
Dr. Doro noted that Kano State has distinguished itself through the establishment of the Kano State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, alongside the strengthening of KASPA as a coordinating institution for social protection interventions.
He stated that these reforms reflect the State’s forward-looking commitment to safeguarding the poor and vulnerable.
He emphasized that the Federal Ministry is fully aligned with Kano’s progressive direction and will direct the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to deepen collaboration with KASPA in order to enhance synergy, streamline programme delivery, and strengthen community-level resilience.
Dr. Doro further disclosed that Kano State will be among the beneficiaries of the forthcoming launch of the National Humanitarian Council—an initiative aimed at bringing together state humanitarian institutions and federal stakeholders to harmonize efforts and improve nationwide coordination.
The Honourable Minister particularly highlighted the importance of data credibility and encouraged KASPA to continue building a validated and inclusive social register that conforms with national standards.
He also advised the Agency to explore best practices from advanced social protection systems to enrich its operations.
Earlier, the Director General of KASPA presented the State’s milestones in livelihood support, agricultural input distribution, economic empowerment, and targeted welfare programmes.
She also outlined priority areas where federal collaboration, technical support, and capacity enhancement would strengthen the State’s humanitarian architecture.
The visit concluded with a renewed commitment from both the Federal Ministry and KASPA to work collaboratively, deepen institutional synergy, and expand support for poor and vulnerable households across Kano State.
