The owner of the proposed Film House project in Dorayi, Abdurrazak Sultan, has announced the cancellation of the project following complaints and concerns raised by residents of the community.
Speaking with journalists, Sultan said the decision was taken out of respect for the views of the people and to promote peace, unity, and mutual understanding within the community.
He explained that after extensive consultations with community leaders, religious scholars, youths, and other stakeholders, it was agreed that the proposed Film House should be replaced with a Skills Acquisition Centre aimed at empowering young people in the area.
According to him, discussions are already underway on the establishment of the centre, which is expected to provide vocational training in various trades, including tailoring, welding, phone and electronics repair, computer studies, and other practical skills that will enable youths to become self-reliant.
Sultan stated that his primary intention had always been to initiate a project that would positively impact the community. He noted that after listening to the concerns of residents, he considered it appropriate to redirect the project toward one that would better serve the interests and aspirations of the people.
He further appealed to the people of Dorayi to continue supporting the initiative by offering constructive suggestions that would ensure the successful establishment of the proposed skills centre.
Some residents of the community welcomed the decision, describing it as a positive development that would create employment opportunities, reduce youth idleness, and contribute to the socio-economic development of Dorayi and its surrounding communities. They also expressed hope that work on the proposed centre would commence as soon as possible.
