Bandits Kill Elderly Woman, Abduct Three in Kano Yankamaye Village

Gunmen suspected to be bandits, late Saturday night, allegedly launched a deadly attack on Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa local government area of Kano State, killing an elderly woman and abducting three residents.

The raid, which occurred at about 11pm, threw the small farming community into panic as many residents were already asleep when the attackers stormed the area.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants rode on motorcycles to the outskirts of the village before proceeding on foot to avoid detection.

A resident, who preferred anonymity, said the elderly woman was shot dead after pleading with the bandits not to take away her son.

According to the source “They refused to listen to her. They shot her and took the young man away,”

The attackers also raided another home, abducting two women, including the sister-in-law of the ward councillor, the source hinted

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command,CSP Haruna Kiyawa were unsuccessful, as calls and messages had not been responded to at the time of filing this report

However, Yankamaye, located about five kilometres from Rimaye town in neighbouring Katsina State, has suffered repeated banditry incidents, especially after some communities across the border reportedly entered into a “peace accord” with criminal groups.

Nearby communities such as Sundu and Birisawa have faced similar attacks.

It will be recalled that only last Monday, at least 10 residents were abducted during a night raid on Birisawa village.
