The Secretary of the APC, Senator Nelson Ajibola Basiru, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to resign from his position if he wishes to continue participating in the politics of Rivers State. Basiru stated that Wike is not a member of the APC and therefore has no authority to interfere in the party’s affairs. This demand followed remarks made by Wike in which he warned the party secretary to stay away from the political crisis in Rivers.
The controversy further highlights the growing rift among top politicians over control of Rivers State, while some observers argue that the power to remove a minister rests solely with the President.
