THROWBACK: ‘IPOB members not terrorists, I live with them’ – Peter Obi

The former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, criticised the Nigerian government’s decision to proscribe the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in 2017.

Reports indicate that Obi also opposed the government’s designation of IPOB as a terrorist organisation. He made this position known on October 1, 2017, while appearing as a guest on Channels TV’s political programme, Politics Today.

According to him at the time, issues of this nature should be addressed through dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution rather than measures that could further escalate tensions. His remarks generated widespread debate among different sections of the country.
