Sports have been described as an important tool for youth development and unity in society.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation Technical Committee, Shareef Rabiu Inuwa Ahlan, made the statement at the final match of the Ahlan Cup 2026 competition organised by Ungogo Local Football Council, held in the ancient city of Kano.
The FA Chairman Dr Shareef Rabiu Inuwa Ahlan stressed the need for Kano State Government to establish sports complexes across the three senatorial zones of the state aimed at encouraging youths participation in sporting activities especially football.
He also emphasized the need for government to provide a workable blueprint and adequate allocation of funds to the State Football Association to enable it become self-reliant and produce athletes capable of representing the state at local, national and international levels.
The Kano FA Chairman however expressed concern over the refusal of some private organizations in the state to sponsor football competitions in Kano, preferring instead to take such sponsorships to Lagos, hence the need for government intervention.
Dr Ahlan commended the Chairman of Ungogo Local Football Council Muhammad Ibrahim popularly known as Yellow for organizing the colorful football competition.
At the end of the match, Rimin Kebe United emerged winners after defeating their opponents 3-2 via penalties.
Highlights of the occasion included presentation of awards of excellence to some dignitaries who graced the event.
