2027: APC Bagwai/Shanono Stakeholders Debunk Report Endorsing Farouk Lawan for Reps Seat

Our attention has been drawn to a publication titled “2027: APC Clears Farouk Lawan for Reps Seat in Kano,” alleging that stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency endorsed Hon. Farouk Lawan as the party’s sole candidate for the House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

For the avoidance of doubt and in the interest of fairness, truth, and accurate public information, we wish to categorically state that no meeting was held where stakeholders endorsed Hon. Farouk Lawan as the consensus or sole candidate of the party.

What transpired at the meeting held at the Kano State Government House, in the presence of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, was entirely different from what was reported.

During the meeting, stakeholders from Bagwai and Shanono Local Government Areas unanimously resolved that the Governor should exercise his discretion in selecting one candidate between the incumbent lawmaker representing the constituency, Hon. Yusuf Ahmad Badau, and former member, Hon. Farouk Lawan.

It was mutually agreed that whoever the Governor selected would emerge as the party’s preferred and anointed candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
Following extensive consultations and deliberations, Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf eventually selected Hon. Yusuf Ahmad Badau as the preferred candidate.

This decision was accepted by all stakeholders present at the meeting, with the exception of Hon. Farouk Lawan.
In light of this, any claim suggesting that stakeholders endorsed Hon. Farouk Lawan or adopted him as the sole candidate of the party is false, misleading, and does not reflect the true outcome of the meeting.

We therefore urge media organisations, political actors, and the general public to verify facts before publication or dissemination, in order to avoid misleading the public and creating unnecessary political tension within Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency.
