Two Women Arrested For Attempted Drug Smuggling into Kano Custodial Centre

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, in its continuous effort to prevent the introduction of prohibited items into custodial facilities, has apprehended two women for attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse, Kano.

The incident occurred on 21st December 2025, when the suspects, Maryam Ali and Hauwa Musa, aged 19 to 20 years , both residents of Kano State, were intercepted during routine security checks while attempting to gain access to the custodial centre.

The suspects were found in possession of suspected illicit drugs, which preliminary investigations revealed were intended for supply to inmates within the facility.

This act constitutes a serious violation of the Nigerian Correctional Service regulations and is a criminal offence under the relevant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Consequently, the suspects have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and necessary legal action.

The Nigerian Correctional Service, Kano State Command, reiterates its commitment to maintaining strict security, discipline, and zero tolerance for all forms of illegal activities within and around custodial centres.

The Command also calls on members of the public to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations governing visits to correctional facilities, as any breach will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
