The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Chapter, has held its Congress meeting under the leadership of the Chairman, Comrade Suleiman Abdullahi Dederi.
The meeting, which took place at the Press Centre, Farm Centre, Kano, brought together journalists from various media organisations across the state.
During the session, members deliberated on key issues affecting the union, including its ongoing activities, operational challenges, and financial updates.
A major highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a motion seeking the suspension of the Union’s Secretary, Abubakar Shehu Kwaru, over alleged misconduct said to be in violation of the NUJ constitution.
The motion, which was raised by members, received broad support from those in attendance, signaling the seriousness of the allegations.
The Congress also discussed security concerns currently affecting some local government areas in Kano State, expressing appreciation to the state government for the steps taken so far to address the situation.
Members emphasized the need for continuous collaboration between the media and government agencies to enhance public awareness and ensure community safety.
The meeting was attended by various stakeholders, including media executives, radio station representatives, and members of the Online Publishers Association, among others.
