The Kano State Government has expressed serious concern over the arrest of the former Chairman of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, by the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the State, Abdulkarim Sulaiman Maude, made this known during a press briefing held on Friday night, stating that the incident has raised “significant constitutional questions regarding law and security.”
According to A.S. Maude, Rimin Gado was arrested in his office on Zaria Road, Kano, without a warrant, and was subsequently taken to the Police Headquarters in Bompai, from where he was transferred to Abuja.
Maude expressed dissatisfaction with the manner and timing of the arrest, especially considering the major investigations currently being handled by the PCACC regarding high-profile allegations in Kano State, coupled with an existing court order restraining his arrest.
The Attorney-General called on the Police to explain the reasons behind the arrest and the decision to move him to Abuja.
He reiterated the importance of adhering to constitutional provisions and protecting human rights.
The Attorney-General further stated that the state government remains committed to upholding law and order and ensuring the protection of citizens’ rights, urging the public to remain calm and law-abiding.
