The Kano State House of Assembly is set to enact a law that will allow the teaching of science and technology subjects in indigenous languages across schools in the state.
Hon. Dr. Musa Ali Kachako, the member representing Takai Constituency, called on the Assembly to establish the law in line with the provisions of the 2022 National Language Policy, which promotes the use of mother tongues in education.
Dr. Kachako explained that teaching science and technology using local languages will enhance students’ understanding and stimulate their interest in learning, especially in technical and scientific fields. He added that the move would also help preserve local cultures and improve the quality of education at the foundational level.
The Assembly emphasized the need for the immediate implementation of the proposal to enhance students’ learning experience and ensure the success of the state’s educational system.
