The management of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, in Kano, has faulted the institution’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over alleged misrepresentation.
Newshub24 reports that this is contained in a statement signed by the University Deputy Registrar and Head of Information, Media and Public Relations Unit, Abdullahi Abdullahi, in Kano on Saturday.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), of the university expressed readiness to embark on yet another strike if its demands are not attended to.
The union expressed dismay over the leadership style of the University Administration, which they said is allegedly characterised by insubordination and lack of transparency and accountability.
The Congress of ASUU-KUST Wudil, last Thursday, raised concern over the inability of the University Administration to improve the working and living conditions of staff and students for effective research, teaching and learning.
It accused the Management of failure to release the Audited Accounts of the University for the years 2023 and 2024, Budget Performance Reports of the University for 20 quarters from January 2020 to December 2024, in flagrant violation of Statute I of the KUST (Amendment Inw) 2017.
However, the university management in the statement said, “The management said ASUU’s allegations were spurious and unfounded, aimed at misinforming the public about the university’s progress and the Kano State Government’s efforts in education.
“The management highlighted several developmental projects and reforms implemented under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor (V-C), Prof. Musa Yakasai, including renovated lecture theatres, installed digital teaching aids, and upgraded public address systems.”
It also extolled efforts by the V-C to improve staff welfare, including forwarding outstanding salary increments to the state government and commending the government for its support to the education sector.
It said, “The management described ASUU’s allegations as politically motivated and called on the public to disregard the union’s statements.
“Prof. Yakasai had implemented several developmental projects and reforms to enhance academic standards and staff welfare.
“These include the renovation of lecture theatres and classrooms, installation of multimedia and digital teaching aids, and upgrade of public address systems.
“Additionally, the university library has been connected to fibre optic internet, and the Central Research Laboratory has been equipped with modern facilities and solar-powered electricity for uninterrupted power supply.”
The management said the administration inherited a backlog of unaudited financial accounts for 2020 to 2022, but has since engaged auditors to update the university’s financial records.
The statement added that outstanding staff salary increments of 25 per cent and 35 per cent had been forwarded to the state government for consideration.
“The management commended the Kano State Government for its education support, citing initiatives like the state of emergency on education and foreign scholarships.
“It described ASUU’s allegations as politically motivated, noting a previous unfounded claim by one of the signatories that the government neglected education.
“The management urged the public to disregard ASUU’s statements, reaffirming its commitment to staff and student welfare and sustaining developmental progress,” he concluded.
