The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday, June 16, 2026, as a public holiday to commemorate the beginning of the Islamic New Year, 1st Muharram 1448 AH.
The declaration was conveyed in an official circular issued by the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Kano State, on behalf of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
According to the circular, the Governor approved the holiday in recognition of the significance of the Islamic calendar and the longstanding tradition observed in Kano State. The public holiday will allow workers across the state to mark the commencement of the new Islamic year.
The government urged civil servants and residents to utilize the occasion for sober reflection and prayers for continued peace, stability, progress, and prosperity in Kano State and Nigeria as a whole.
The announcement was signed by Safiyya Ali Suleiman, Director of Administration and General Services, for the Head of Civil Service, Kano State.
