The Chairman of Bichi Local Government Area, Hon. Hamza Sule Mai Fata, has marked the third anniversary of Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, with a major sports and educational event designed to promote youth development and community participation.
The celebration, held in Bichi, brought together students from primary and secondary schools, teachers, traditional leaders, and residents who gathered to honour Governor Yusuf’s three years in office while encouraging young people to engage in healthy recreational activities.
Hon. Mai Fata said the event reflected the local government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that nurture talent, build confidence among students, and strengthen social cohesion within communities.
He noted that Governor Yusuf’s administration has consistently prioritized education and youth empowerment, making it important for local governments to complement such efforts through programmes that positively impact young people.
The highlight of the anniversary celebration was a series of sporting competitions involving students and teachers, which transformed the occasion into a festival of talent, excitement, and teamwork.
Participants competed in several events, including sack races, egg-and-spoon races, cocoa-drinking contests, bread-and-soft-drink races, needle-and-thread races, and sprint competitions.
Male and female teams also participated in tug-of-war contests, while the one-leg hopping race added excitement and entertainment to the programme.
At the end of the competitions, outstanding participants received prizes and recognition for their performances, with organizers emphasizing the importance of rewarding excellence and hard work among students.
Education stakeholders at the event praised the initiative, saying sports remain an effective tool for promoting discipline, leadership and healthy living among young people.
The celebration ended with renewed calls for continued support for Governor Yusuf’s administration, as participants commended the progress recorded in Kano State and expressed optimism about the future under his leadership
