The Emblem Appeal Fund for retired military personnel and their families has so far raised over ₦39.537 million in cash and pledges, with the Kano State Government contributing the largest share of ₦36 million.
Of this, ₦20 million came directly from the state government, while Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his family donated ₦5 million. Additionally, the governor directed all 44 local government councils to contribute ₦250,000 each, further boosting the state’s contribution.
Speaking at the official launch, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the state government consistently supports security initiatives in Kano, providing resources and collaboration to ensure peace and stability across the state. He also stated that the welfare of retired servicemen is a moral responsibility, and that the Emblem Appeal Fund is a way to honor those who sacrificed for Nigeria’s peace and unity.
The launch event was hosted by Major General S. Muhammad (Rtd), Director General of the Special Services Directorate. Sarkin Shanun Kano, Alhaji Shehu Muhammadu, represented His Highness, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Air Vice Marshal A. M. Tukur, Commander of the Third Brigade at Vokabo Barracks, spoke on behalf of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, announcing a contribution of ₦1.5 million from the military. BUA Group also made a donation through its representative, reflecting private sector support for retired servicemen and their families.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Kano State, AWO Kabiru Isyaku (Rtd), expressed appreciation to the state government, security agencies, corporate organizations, and other contributors, noting that the funds would significantly improve the welfare of retired soldiers’ families, especially women and children.
