Northwest University graduates complain over delay in issuance of certificates

Some graduates of Northwest University, Kano, have expressed concern over the prolonged delay in the release of their graduation certificates, a situation they say has continued to hinder their ability to further their education or secure employment, especially abroad.
One graduate who completed his studies in 2020 told Daily News 24 that he has still not been issued his certificate, but only a statement of result, which he said has affected his chances of applying for further studies.
Similarly, a female graduate stated that despite fulfilling all graduation requirements, she has not received her certificate. Others also claimed that they have not even been issued their statement of result.
Responding to the complaints, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim, explained that the delay was caused by errors discovered during the printing of the certificates, where some information did not conform with the university’s official approval.
He said that some of the certificates have since been corrected and brought in from the United Kingdom, and are currently kept at the office of the university Registrar for distribution. He added that the company responsible for printing the certificates has admitted its mistake.
Abubakar Ibrahim further disclosed that the certificates for the 2023/2024 graduating set and those of the 2022/2023 academic session have been completed, and distribution will commence from today, Monday, 22 December 2025, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., from Monday to Friday.
He advised graduates to rely only on official information from university authorities, and appealed for patience from those whose certificates are yet to be finalized, assuring them that the university is taking urgent steps to resolve the issue completely.
However, some of the alumni expressed hope that this initiative would provide a lasting solution, enabling them to pursue their academic and professional lives without further obstacles.
