The Kano State Government has inaugurated the Kano Emirate Council to deliberate on key issues affecting the emirates and to provide advisory support for enhanced governance and community development.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf led the inauguration, emphasizing that the establishment of the council marks an important step toward fostering collaboration between the government and traditional institutions in addressing societal challenges.
In his address, Governor Yusuf explained that the new council will enhance unity, promote peace, and introduce a lasting structure within the emirate system, particularly considering the vital role traditional rulers play in cultural and social stability.
He stressed that the council’s formation is part of his administration’s broader efforts to strengthen community engagement and ensure that traditional institutions continue to serve as pillars of guidance and leadership.
The governor pointed out that the council will serve as a platform for discussing matters related to the development of the emirate, conflict resolution, youth affairs, and strategies for addressing emerging issues across various communities.
Governor Yusuf also called on traditional rulers to intensify their efforts in enlightening citizens on the importance of obeying law and order, as well as supporting government initiatives designed to improve the welfare of the people.
He noted that the success of the emirate system largely depends on the active participation of traditional institutions in promoting harmony, preserving cultural values, and bridging communication between the government and the grassroots.
In his remarks, the 16th Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, commended the state government for revitalizing the dignity and relevance of the emirates. He reiterated that the council is crucial for generating meaningful advice to guide government policies.
Emir Sanusi II emphasized the need for continuous collaboration between the government and traditional institutions to ensure peace, development, and the protection of cultural heritage across the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf further assured the council that his administration remains committed to respecting the traditional institutions and will continue to give them full support to ensure lasting peace and sustainable development in Kano.
