Ministry of Women Affairs Flags Off Supervision of Women Development Centres, Cottage Industries Across 44 LGAs
The Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs has officially flagged off a state-wide supervision exercise of Women Development Centres (WDCs) and Women Cottage Industries across all 44 local government areas of the state.
The Honourable Commissioner, Ambassador Amina Abdullahi Sani (HOD), led a high-powered delegation on the first leg of the working tour with visits to Rimin Gado and Tofa Local Government Areas.
The purpose of the tour is to physically verify, assess, and document the status of women-focused development centres, inspect machines, identify challenges, and provide practical solutions to strengthen the delivery of women empowerment programs.
During the visit, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of equipping and revitalizing these centres as platforms to uplift women economically, reduce dependency, and promote self-sufficiency.
“This is not just a visit; it’s a serious commitment to transforming women’s lives.
“When women are empowered at the local level, the ripple effect benefits their families, communities, and the state at large,” she said.
At Tofa, the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Yakubu Ibrahim Adis welcomed the Commissioner and called for the establishment of a permanent Women Development Centre and cottage industry in the area, stressing the urgent need for structured support for women.
Similarly, at Rimin Gado, the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Sani Salisu Jili appealed to the Ministry to prioritise girl-child education and youth empowerment in the region, noting the crucial role such initiatives play in community development.
Director of the Women Department, Ministry of Women Affairs, Hajiya Bilkisu Shafi’u Jibrin, highlighted the potential of Women Development Centres to transform lives when properly supported.
She commended the Commissioner for her proactive leadership and tireless commitment to grassroots empowerment.
The state-wide tour underscores the Kano State Government’s dedication to ensuring all empowerment programs are functional, impactful, and inclusive, with data gathered during the visits expected to inform policy decisions and future interventions.
